Camp General Orders (Historical)

General Order # 2
21 March 2011
Death of Brother James R. Hurst, SUVCW Fort Donelson Camp # 62

Brothers,

I’m forwarding messages from Brother Roger Tenney and from SAR President Rick Hollis concerning the passing of our SUV Brother Jim Hurst.  Brother Hurst was the first recruit of the revitalized Fort Donelson Camp # 62, having been brought to the Camp by Brother Tenney.

Brother Hurst and Brother Tenney served as Color Guards at the 2008 ceremony at Franklin’s Rest Haven Cemetery for Gen. Brownlow and Col. Grummond (photo attached).

The Camp Charter and the Camp web site will be draped for the next 30 days in remembrance of Brother Hurst.

He will be sadly missed.

In F., C., & L.,

Sam

It is our hope that all members of the Camp and their families are doing well as the beautiful Tennessee Spring comes into blossom.

Ronald Powell resigned as Senior Vice Commander of Fort Donelson Camp No. 62 effective 1 March 2008.

Brother Powell is to be commended for his long service to FDC62. As a charter member of the Camp, he was one of the men with the vision of a dynamic camp, bringing honor to our Civil War forbearers who sacrificed so much to preserve the Union. As a Camp officer, he contributed to the stability of the Camp allowing it to function as a fully-organized entity for some thirteen years to this date.

As we Camp members have the opportunity, let us express our appreciation to Brother Powell for his great service.

Trent D. Johnson has consented to accept the vacated post of Senior Vice Commander.

Brother Johnson is the great-great grandson of Sgt. John Crooks, Co. I, 51st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Sgt. Crooks was wounded at the Battle of Stones River and again at the Battle of Lookout Mountain.

Effective this date, Trent D. Johnson is Senior Vice Commander, SUVCW Fort Donelson Camp No. 62, Department of Tennessee.

Please mark on your calendars and plan to attend the FDC62 meeting at 12 noon on Saturday, 19 April at Dotson’s Restaurant, Franklin, TN. Mr. Lincoln (a.k.a. Dennis Boggs) will be the keynote speaker. We will then tour Fort Granger.

Yours in Fraternity, Charity, & Loyalty,
